Leadville 2002, Race Inbound

Ok, the runners have reached Winfield and now head back the same route.....to the finish in under 30 hours!

Twin Lakes is the first aid station that the crew can meet the runner, though there is another aid station at Hope Pass is just over 12,000 ft high.

Jose at Twin Lakes, 9:14 PM Saturday, 60.5 into the race.

The next aid station is at Fish Hatchery/Outbound Aid Station.

Brenda at Fish Hatchery, 2:14 AM Sunday, 76.5 miles into the race

Matt Mahoney getting a shoulder massage at Fish Hatchery....

Then it's off to May Queen, the last offical aid station.

Kim, Barbara, Joan at May Queen Aid Station.

Jose resting and getting something to eat and drink at May Queen,

6:20 AM Sunday, 86.5 miles into the race.

Brenda arrivng at May Queen, and she has dropped her pacer!

Now it's off to Tabor Boat Ramp, where we cane see the runners again.

Tabor Boat Ramp.

Jose was having a small breathing problem so Kim paced Jose in from Tabor Boat Ramp, about 6 miles to the finish. Brenda sadly dropped out here!

Matt Mahoney cruising up the boulevard, just under a mile to the finish.

Despite the best efforts of Kim and Jose trying to speed things up, when Jose reached here he would have had to crank out a 4 minute mile to finish under the 30 hour time limit!

Cruising into the finish, it looks like its an easy downhill, but the photo is deceiving, you've just come up a big uphill, then this short downhill and then it's an uphill.

Jose finishing, 30 hours, 10 minutes. 10:10 AM Sunday, 100 miles.

Mona finished in skirt and boa!

Then Jose and Kim get a massage......aaahhhhhhhh!

Jose resting before the awards. Are you sure he is still breathing?
